Songs of Country, Seasons, Stories, and Everyday Australia
Over the past little while, something quietly beautiful has been growing behind the scenes at Waratah and Wood.
Not just individual songs – but a songbook.
The Waratah and Wood Aussie Songbook is a growing collection of original Australian songs inspired by this land, our seasons, our wildlife, our humour, our rituals, and the everyday moments that shape who we are.
These are not novelty tracks (well mostly not!) or trend-driven pieces. They are songs written to feel familiar – like memories you didn’t realise you’d been carrying.
Songs shaped by the Australian way of life
Australia has its own rhythms.
- Our summers stretch long into the evening.
- Our winters are quieter, clearer, and often closer to the stars.
- Our celebrations look different.
- Our landscapes tell stories without needing words.
The Aussie Songbook reflects that. You’ll find songs inspired by:
- Backyard barbecues, beach days, and long summer nights
- Country towns, showgrounds, and wide open skies
- Native animals, bushland, coastlines, and changing seasons
- The Southern Hemisphere year — moons, solstices, and seasonal turning points
- Shared moments of joy, grief, humour, and resilience
Some songs are bright and boppy. Some are gentle and reflective. Some are playful. Some hold space for quiet emotion. All of them are grounded in Australian experience.
Music that feels inclusive, gentle, and human
One of the guiding intentions behind this songbook is inclusivity — not in a loud or forced way, but in a human one.
These songs are written for:
- Families and kids
- Grown-ups who still feel deeply
- Quiet listeners and sing-along types
- People who love Australia as it is – complex, imperfect, and beautiful
There’s room here for laughter and tears. For nostalgia and hope. For celebration and reflection.
A songbook that grows over time
The Waratah and Wood Aussie Songbook isn’t finished – and it isn’t meant to be. It’s designed to grow slowly and organically, with new songs added as ideas emerge, seasons turn, and stories ask to be told. Some songs stand alone, others naturally sit together in playlists or themes.
Over time, the songbook will include:
- Seasonal and calendar-based songs
- Songs inspired by Australian animals and landscapes
- Celebration songs (New Year, community, shared moments)
- Gentle reflective pieces for quieter listening
Each song is created with care – lyrics, mood, imagery, and feeling all working together.
Why a songbook?
Because songs last.
SThey have a way of slipping into memory – they get played at gatherings, on long drives, in workshops, kitchens, classrooms, and quiet moments alone. They become part of the background of life.
The Aussie Songbook is my way of capturing small pieces of Australia as they are lived — not as postcards or clichés, but as moments that feel true.
An open invitation
Whether you dip in for one song or follow along as the songbook grows, you’re welcome here.
This is music made with heart, shaped by country, and offered gently – just like a blanket on the grass while we wait for the sky to light up.
More songs will be shared soon, each with their own story.
For now, welcome to the Waratah and Wood Aussie Songbook. I’m so glad you’re here
